Lift someone else up

I think he meant that if you want to raise your spirits help raise others' spirits. Another thing he could of meant is that if your down or someone else is you should help them and maybe you wont feel down. "If you want to lift yourself up, lift someone else up," are his words. You should never leave a person down if they are hurt physically or mentally. He was smart to say that and he has probably help many people in his time as well.
